Hello Students and Parents/Guardians:
I am very happy to welcome you all to another exciting school year 2023-2024! This will be my 23rd year of teaching, however my 3rd at Solorsano Middle School. Students are required to read this syllabus with parents/guardians, and bring back only the last page signed: DUE on Monday August 21st, 2023.
Students will be working on the following areas:

Problem solving and analytical skills

Applying math concepts to the daily routines

Using math knowledge to enhance critical thinking
In this course, students get the opportunity to follow eight mathematical practices through five math units (Please refer to this link for more information:

Class Expectations:
-
Be Prepared.
-
Be Honest, Respectful, and Responsible (HR2)
-
Cell phones should not be used in class unless the teacher gives specific instructions.

Stay On-Task from the very first moment of the class. There will be Warm-up or starter activity posted and students are supposed to start right away, as well as having Homework on their desk.

Follow instructions (that includes note taking, collaborative group work, and individual silent work)

Bring all materials needed for the class daily (LAPTOP CHARGED)
-
No Chewing gum; No eating or drinking soda or any other drink, except water.

HW is due at the beginning of the period. Bring your HW and be ready to turn in.

Class starts on time. Students MUST be at their seat, otherwise marked Tardy.

All tests/quizzes will be announced ahead of time. Prepare for the assessments. There are RETAKE for test (upon student contract), however no retakes on QUIZZES
Course Description:
In Common Core math 7, we focus on five main units:

Ratio and Proportional relationships

The Number System

Expressions and Equations
-
Geometry
-
Probability and Statistics
Textbook:
Core Connections Course 2 – CPM (Dietiker, Kysh, Sallee, Hoey)
Materials:
-
Math composition books/or Math Binder with paper (Only for math: for note taking, examples)

Sharpened pencils, Erasers, Black/Blue pen (No Red), Highlighter

Dry erase markers (for mini whiteboard) and eraser
-
Graph paper
-
colored pencils are preferred
Grading Policy:

Homework, Classwork, Projects, Participation: approx 30%

Tests: approx 50%
-
Quizzes: approx 20%
Grading Scale:
-
A: 90-100%
-
B: 80-89%
-
C: 70-79%
-
D: 60-69%
-
F: below 60%
Tests/Quizzes/Projects:
There will be many important tests/quizzes/projects during this year. The dates of the assessments will be announced ahead of time. Work MUST be shown on all tests and quizzes to receive any credit. Also, there will only be Re-take of tests, not quizzes.
Homework:
Assignments will be given on a daily basis and could come from text, worksheet, google classroom, or gizmo program. All assignments should be done on 8.5 x 11 white lined paper (except worksheets) and are due the following class. Late Homework will only receive partial credit and parents will be notified. Late Homework is always accepted with an excused absence. ALL assignments are to be done in PENCIL, and each is worth 5 points. Students will lose points if the assignment is not done in pencil.
HOMEWORK KEY- “WP” write each problem down, “NP” no pen allowed, “Inc” Incomplete work, “SW” show all possible steps taught in class
Makeup work for absent students:
Any missing/incomplete test/quiz must be taken during lunch in my classroom. Students need to inform me ahead of time and be responsible to show up on time for makeup.
